Who are The Village People?
- A non-profit downtown volunteer revitalization organization
established November 2000
- Private citizens willing to invest time and financial resources to
improve downtown
- Business and property owners in West Salem
- West Salem patrons
- Community oriented youth
The Village People organization is comprised of the following
committees
- Oversight Committee
- Downtown Business Development Committee
- Youth Committee
- Planning and Organization Committee
- Appearances Committee
Why are The Village People focusing on Downtown?
- To re-establish the core of our community
- To preserve the historic value
- Because downtown is a reflection of how our community sees itself
- Because downtown represents a significant portion of our
community's tax base
- Because it includes unique shopping and service opportunities
such as law, medical, insurance, antiques, specialty shops,
restaurants and government offices
- Because downtowns are a major tourist destination
- To provide a sense of community and place
How long will the Revitalization process take?
- Revitalization is an ongoing process
- Education before action is vital to the success of long term
revitalization
- Short term goals 2-4 years
- Long term goals 5-10 years

- Volunteer your time and talents

- Sponsor events, programs, advertising and other in kind donations
